Services

I am available for a variety of psychiatric medicolegal services, including:

  • opinions on the psychological sequelae of personal injuries and clinical negligence;

  • opinions on the psychiatric issues pertaining to criminal law, including (but not limited to) matters pertaining to Section 51A and 53F of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act, as well as the 'forensic' aspects of the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 as amended by the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 2015 (including patients subject to compulsion and / or restriction orders);

  • independent capacity assessments;

  • the provision of Schedule 1 Certificates to accompany applications for Guardianship or Intervention Orders under the Adults With Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000;

  • independent medical opinions with relation to the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 as amended by the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 2015 (e.g. Section 50 or Section 100 applications);

  • psychiatric issues relevant to other areas of the law (including but not limited to human rights legislation, family courts, employment tribunal, internal complaints processes, etc)

My independent role solely focuses on medicolegal practice. I do not offer clinical services, psychological therapies, or medication / diagnostic advice on a private basis. If you wish to seek a private clinical psychiatrist or psychological therapist, I would recommend that you discuss this with your GP, who will often be able to address the issue, consider an NHS referral, or identify a quality private provider locally.
